Priesthood Power!

Image
I have been able to witness many powerful priesthood blessings in my life time.  Many involving my little boy as many of you have read about with all of his surgeries.  But this past week I was able to witness the most powerful immediate response to a priesthood blessing. First what is the priesthood?  The priesthood is the authority to act in God’s name. The same priesthood authority that existed in the original Church established by Jesus Christ exists in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints today. The Church is directed and led through this authority. For more answers head on over to the  Mormon.org  explanation. This last week we were in KC for Thanksgiving visiting family.  Our family started to get a cold a couple of days before we were going to leave.  Things were fine, but Jackson seemed to be getting the worst of it.  We first noticed something was up when he started getting the barking seal cough (AKA croup, which I know all about it, but I didn't put

Life lately

Image
Oh life… you have a way of just ticking right on by! So much has happened lately but here are some highlights I started a new business.  Maybe you have heard of it? Origami Owl Custom Jewelry and I LOVE IT! 1. because I love jewelry 2. Because I don't have to be a crazy sales person to sell it because everyone loves it 3. I can change it every day to what I want! Seriously, so fun! IF you haven't heard of it, check out my website www.lexingtonlockets.origamiowl.com Jackson and I took a trip to Colorado to visit family and for me to go to Time Out For Women with just us girls (mother in law and 2 sister in laws)! We also got to meet up with our friends Ashley and Ryder Sloan.  I'm sure by next time the boys see each other they will be into playing with each other! Time Out For Women was so much fun (what we saw of it) and so was the night we spent in Denver with just the girls! We got locked out of our room (and our stuff) and they tried to compensa

Thalman's happenings

Image
The Thalman's have been so busy lately.  Actually, correction... I have been so busy.  Or at least my brain feels super stressed and busy. DELICIOUS Pina Colada, inside a pineapple! 1. Leak in our main line coming into our house.  No idea how long it had been leaking but it was only a fluke we found it.  After it rained a TON I had him go down in the crawl space to see if everything was good.  Everything was but that! So called a plumber, he was fast, and friendly, and EXPENSIVE! Need help paying bills? Become a plumber! He was there for 45 min. and charged me $120 in labor GAAAH 2. AC stopped working... Called a bunch of people and choose the person that had the lowest diagnostic price.  GREAT choice! Fast, Friendly, and great priced.  They found out my AC was still warranted and I got a $20 coupon on their website! Scott is kicking butt in school.  What's new? He's super smart and is really efficient at his studying which is GREAT for me! He has been super help

Just Recipes!

YUMMIES Artichoke Bread Next time I would add spinach.  However, it's not good the next day. Balsamic Penne and Asparagus This didn't seem like it was going to turn out, but it ended up being VERY good! Homemade Scalloped Potatoes I might use a little less cheese next time, but these were good.  Oh, the crab was delicious too! Spicy Sausage Pasta Was not spicy at all but was pretty good! Spinach Pasta Bake Pretty good.  Next time I will probably use broccoli instead of the spinach FAILS Baked Ravioli Not any better than just using a jar of sauce and baking it. Pretzel Brownies NOT good.  Well the brownies were good but the pretzel under was weird.  They seemed stale, not crunchy.

Cincinnati Zoo!

Image
We were so excited to take Jackson to the zoo for the first time.  He is finally old enough to get what is happening and to recognize all the animals we see in books and make noises for.  We went with our friends the Beardsley's and their little girl Eloise.  Both kids did GREAT.  No whining, crying (except for Jackson being terrified.  More on that later), or kids old enough to complain about it being hot, or tired, or have an opinion about what animal to see next =) We didn't get to see very many animals because it was so hot, but the ones we saw were pretty cool! We started out with the Cheetah encounter. SO COOL.  They rig up a fluffy toy on a string and pull it really fast across a big grassy area as the Cheetah chases it.  SO FAST! Everyone thought it was cool, except Jackson.  My big, strong, tough boy was scared of the cheetah, 30 feet away, behind a fence.  He SCREAMED and CRIED in fear! Poor guy.  It was actually kind of embarrassing.   Other highlights

Jackson's Surgery, softball, and some AWESOME recipes!

Jackson had his 5th surgery which was a hernia repair on Monday. Poor kid was soo hungry though.  He ate at 6:30pm dinner the night before and couldn't have anything when he woke up and his surgery didn't start until 9:30am. He kept signing drink and food and getting into my diaper bag.  Luckily they had some fun toys to play with while we wait.  And of course he dazzled all the nurses and other patients.  We got buzzed to go into the consult room and Dr. Ziada told us everything went great and we could go up and see him soon.  When we got up there he was drinking his first ever Powerade from a sippy cup and would not let it go.  If I tried to take one of his arms down so they could get his blood pressure he would scream! He drank almost the whole bottle and some cheerios before we left.  On our way out, he threw up a little.  Looked just like our dogs throw up with all the cheerios in it.  Then when we were in the car on the way home I noticed he looked pale so I put my j

Surgery #5 planned and what our cute boy is doing these days!

Image
This day came too soon.  The day after all of Jackson's surgeries we knew he would need were finished and we would find out he needed another one.  An unplanned one.   I guess I handled it much better than I thought I would.  I didn't really tear up until after I got home from the appointment.  The doctors probably think my heart is made of steal the way they nonchalantly said it to me. It's not a big deal and is an outpatient procedure.   He has a hernia.    They thought he had hydrocele for awhile now, which is a fluid filled sac in the scrotum.  And it still might be that. We will find out if it's that or bowel that has moved down into his scrotum after the ultrasound next week.  He isn't in pain and it really hasn't been a big deal.  His right side has always been a little bigger but it was luck that the day he had a fever (his testicles usually hanging way out of him when he has one. Awkward, I know) he had a follow up with his urologist fo

3 pinterest fails and 3 AH-MAZINGS!

Image
I have been having some epic pinterest fails lately, which is NOT the norm.  Most of the things I have made have been really good.  I guess the ones I have picked just have been bad choices. Here are some I guess I set myself up to fail for this one.  I am from KC and I am very particular about my BBQ  Zesty Slow cooker BBQ chicken Ok.  This wasn't a total fail.  It was pretty good, but the sauce was SO runny and I coudn't get it to thicken up using tricks.  Maybe someone else will have better luck?  Hawaiian Meatballs Summer chicken wraps. How amazing do these look?  These were an EPIC fail.  The thing that made it fail? A $7 jar of almond butter I had to get at whole foods.  NOT a good taste. Want to know what's AMAZING?!?! Most likely you already have the ingredients.  Fast, easy, cheap, yummy! Crispy Cheddar Chicken These were really good and were gone pretty fast at the Break th
