"Homemaker" week

This week I decided be a hardcore "homemaker. I mean hardcore for me.  I have done a couple of things around the house that have needed to be done for a LONG time such as

Cleaning the oven.

I didn't clean it when we moved in last October.  Does that really matter? My food never touches the actual oven so I didn't think it was a big deal.  Well it hasn't been, except for the cumulation of food overflowing, splattering, and dripping.  This has now caused our oven to smoke every time we use it.  It is most likely caused from the carrots I was cooking in foil packets and didn't know the foil had a hole in the bottom. This caused the butter to drip all over the oven floor. Don't buy cheap foil. Also, don't do this if you did a heavy deltoid workout the day before.  Ow.

So I took to Pinterest to find an easy way to clean the oven without using the self cleaner and having to buy expensive cleaners.  I found one with baking soda, vinegar, and dawn dish soap.  All things I had.

Sprinkle with baking soda.  Spray down with 1/1 ratio of dawn dish soap and vinegar. Let sit 6-8 hours.  You are supposed to be able to wipe it off but I had to scrub a little bit.  Mine still had some spots and I'm trying a round 2 with those, but look at the glass! LOVE!

Cleaning Permanent marker off of chairs.

I found these gems at Uncle Ray Jays Furniture resale.  They are a little beat up and do need some touch up work but I couldn't pass them up.  It's hard to find cheap little kid chairs.  These were $7. I wish I could claim this trick as my own, but my friend Cari told me about this. Use hand sanitizer to get permanent marker off. Put on, wipe off. Look and see.

Crib railing protector.

We had to move Jackson's crib all the way down to the bottom.  Walked in one morning and the little bugger was leaning all the way over his crib rail.  When we moved it down, I then noticed the railing was now at chewing/teething height.  We bought this crib wanting it to last all of our kids so I took to Pinterest again to help make sure he didn't ruin the railing.  I was going to use this tutorial, Cheap Easy crib rail but didn't want to have to go buy fabric.  The Johan's and Hobby Lobby here in Lexington are awful.  I thought for a minute and thought,  Why not just use his crib bumper? We never used it as a bumper, just as a background/accent for his crib just so I could show it off some how.  Love the argyle. All I did was put it on over the top over the railing and tied the strings together and VOILA!

Sewing buttons.

I don't know why, but I HATE sewing buttons.  I never get the right amount of thread, the tread always comes out of the eye, I ALWAYS poke myself.  But I had 6 buttons I needed to sew back on my stuff. Good thing I keep EVERY button that comes with a new piece of clothing.  That took 5 minutes.  Why did I put it off for 3 months? Also, don't be jealous of my fancy sewing kit.
